On the Road Quilts - Summer 2007

An exhibit of quilts with an “On the Road” connection, was held in conjunction with the New England Quilt Festival and the Lowell’s exhibit of Jack Kerouac’s original On the Road scroll manuscript.

The American Beat poet and novelist Jack Kerouac was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1922. His seminal novel, On the Road, (written in 1951; published in 1957), was legendarily written in three weeks on one continuous roll of Teletype paper. His writing style has been the inspiration of countless writers and artists.
