Built in c. 1825 by the Proprietors of Locks and Canals, the 200-year-old birthplace of James McNeill Whistler has stood as a beacon of art and engineering in Lowell. The Federal and Greek Revival house served as the home to the chief engineers of Lowell, a boarding house for mill workers, and currently the headquarters of the Lowell Art Association. The Whistler House Museum of Art welcomes guests to explore fourteen beautifully restored rooms and discover the stunning works of art that adorn its walls.

Constructed in 1960, the Theodore Edson Parker Gallery showcases rotating contemporary and fine arts exhibitions from artists around the world. Engaging in a variety of mediums, subjects, and styles, exhibitions at the Whistler House Museum of Art showcase emerging and established artists while inspiring the next generation. Additionally, the Parker Gallery hosts a variety of lectures, concerts, educational & community programs, and an array of social events.
With the land donated by the Telemachus A. Demoulas, the former location of the first Demoulas Superette (Market Basket) is now a public park operated by the Whistler House Museum of Art. The Victorian Garden invites visitors back to the era of James McNeill Whistler, who is immortalized in a statue by artist Mico Kaufman. Take a moment to take in the beautiful lush garden, a hidden oasis in the center of the City of Lowell.
Take a moment to unwind in this English-inspired, serene courtyard, where history and nature seamlessly join forces. This intimate, airy space offers the perfect setting for refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. Guests will delight upon stepping into our stunning and idyllic gardens, soaking in the sunshine or moonlit evening. It’s the perfect breath of fresh air for a variety of events, such as weddings, birthdays, celebrations of life, and many more festivities.
