December 2020

Meet the Whistler House Museum of Art's December Artist of the Month:

Mary Rose O'Connell

Mary Rose, a contemporary realist, is a classically trained artist and teacher. She is primarily an oil painter with concentrations in portrait, still life, marine, and plein air painting. Her paintings and commission works are done in both oil and acrylic with a wide range of options from gallery wrap to gilded framing. The paintings are often done from life and may also be done from high quality photographs when desired.

In pursuit of her artistic training Mary Rose had many years of formal training in the Boston School tradition. Her work shows the benefit of a strong grounding in draftsmanship and design. This style of painting is done in natural light and is influenced by the beautiful colors of the impressionists.

Mary Rose maintains a studio in the Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, Massachusetts. She is a juried artist member of The Copley Society of Art, The Rockport Art Association and Museum, and The North Shore Arts Association. Mary Rose is also a member of The Allied Artists of America, The American Society of Marine Artists, The Guild of Boston Artists, and The Lowell Art Association. She has won many awards and has numerous works in both private and public collections throughout the United States.

The WHMA is excited to share with you a collection of Mary Rose's work. If you are interested in purchasing any of these paintings, contact the Whistler House Museum of Art

November 2020

Meet the Whistler House Museum of Art's November Artist of the Month:

Tom Gill

Tom is a well known artist throughout New England. He was born in Lowell and raised in Chelmsford. He started his painting career at a young age and pursued an education in fine art from the Art Institute of Boston.

Tom was also a rock musician in the 80's, developing his own unique style of painting. He notes, "I feel like I'm making music when I'm painting...and that's why there's rhythm in my paintings". The result is always loose and impressive with harmonious colors that interplay with light. With a distinguishable style that is notably recognizable, this talented artist has won many awards throughout the country.

He is a member of the North Shore Art Association, Rockport Art Association, Chelmsford Art Society, and the Lowell Art Association, Inc. His paintings are owned by many private collectors, businesses, hospitals, and educational institutions in Boston and the region.

As a valued member of the Lowell Art Association, Inc., we are excited to share with you a collection of his work.
