As the Lowell Art Association, the oldest incorporated association for professional artists in the United States, the Whistler House Museum of Art strives to support emerging and established artists in Lowell, New England, and beyond. From hosting an Artist-in-Residence in the third floor studio to showcasing artists in the community, the Whistler House Museum of Art fosters artists to create the artwork they love in the historic building they call home.

Before artists like James McNeill Whistler became famous, they began their art careers as students learning the basics. The WHMA’s Youth Summer Art Program introduces young artists to the guiding principles of art through a broad range of art forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking/collage. During the 4-week summer workshop, experienced and accredited art instructors use professional supplies to teach students composition, design, color, and perspective, as well as help them discover their own styles and approaches.
