The Allure Of Venice

Exhibition:  April 21, 2018 to July 21, 2018
Reception: Saturday, April 21 from 2 to 4 pm

The Whistler House Museum of Art is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, The Allure of VeniceNo other city inspires and moves an artist’s emotions and imagination like Venice. Along with artists such as James McNeill Whistler and John Singer Sargent, Walter F. Lansil (1846–1925) found some of his richest inspiration in this timeless city during the period they all spent there in the 1880s. A quintessential New Englander, Lansil discovered endless beauty and enduring subjects, which would continue to influence his painting for the rest of his life. For the first time, the most noteworthy maritime and Venetian works of this prolific artist are gathered in a lavish exhibition at the Whistler House Museum of Art, in partnership with Fry Fine Art.

Author of the exhibition book, The Allure of Venice, Carol G. J. Scollan, a Senior Lecturer II from UMASS Boston, scholar, and curator, will be lecturing and signing copies of her book during the opening reception.

Join us as we follow this accomplished artist, Walter F. Lansil to his rendezvous with Venice, and then home again.
