Physical Description/Subject Matter | ||
In this winter scene, Hibbard depicts three men and a horse working on a frozen pond in a forest. Two of the men are harvesting blocks of ice from the pond, while the third is piling ice blocks onto a horse-drawn sleigh. In the background, an evergreen forest is framed by distant mountains and a soft blue sky. More evident in this work than others, Hibbard uses thick brushstrokes to capture the scene and define the edges of the icy water. |
